What if I go back in time and kill my own grandfather? Will the universe implode?
Forward time travel is possible and has been done: Its very much possible to go forward in time, all you have to do is move much faster then your enviroment. An astronaught sent into orbit will move something like 8 seconds forward in time by the time he gets back to earth, this is a fact that has been proven and works well with Einstein's special realtivity. Also, this by no means contradicts basic logic in any way, problems start when we try to move back in time... Moving BACK in time is highly unlikely, even in theory Lets assume there is a timeline of reality in which we are all in, if someone tries to move back in time, he doesnt even have to kill his own father, he already contradicted the timeline with something that never happened, traveling back in time is therefor impossible. You dont have to know anything about physics to understand that, as sorry as I am to tell this. It makes a great plot in many books and movies, but moving back in time is just impossible. The only model that can make this possible is if going back in time will make the travel branch off to a parallel universe. Parallel what? In theory, if I go back in time and find myself in a parallel universe, and my "main" universe, or "origin" universe is still around then everything seems to be fine. I am not contradicting anything and everyone are happy. The only problem is that there is no proof of this being likely or possible. Its pretty much a theory and only a theory. Closing the loop Steven Hawking said: "It seems that there is a Chronology Protection Agency which prevents the appearance of closed timelike curves and so makes the universe safe for historians.". in his Chronology protection conjecture Theory. So in conclusions, we dont have to worry about backwards time travel imploding the universe, while forward time travel is possible and has been done.
